Every year, 650 cocktail connoisseurs prepare for a tasting session at cocktail bars around the world. From the ballot for the World’s 50 Best Bars-election of 2022, Paradiso in Barcelona emerged as the winner, but Italy has more to offer than just the Aperol Spritz and is well represented on the list. These four Italian bars are among the best in the world.

The best cocktail bars in Italy

Drink Kong – Rome
In the Roman district of Monti, you will find the best bar in Italy, which ranks at number 16. Local and international visitors know how to find it, making it always pleasantly busy. Praised for the challenging menu by mixologist Patrick Pistolesi, the atmosphere, and the futuristic interior: Japanese, dark, and full of neon lighting.

1930 – Milan
At number 35 on the list, you can't just walk in. While you can easily find the average speakeasy on Google Maps nowadays, the address of 1930 is not known. And even if you manage to find the location and have a familiar face, it’s not certain that the owners will let you in. But if you succeed, you will find a place that feels like you have actually landed in the time of American Prohibition, but with excellent cocktails and matching snacks, currently with an African theme.

Locale – Florence
One of my favorite bars in Florence is for the first time included in the list of the best bars in the world this year. The classics and changing cocktails from bar manager Matteo Di Lenno secured a 36th place. Especially the latter are cool: the drinks are always inspired by three themes around flowers, vegetables, and seasonal fruits that truly form the basis. For example, I once had a tomato cocktail (which this cocktail seems to have forgotten the rest, but it was delicious). The location of Locale was also a point scorer; the modern bar surrounded by greenery upon entering does not immediately reveal that you are in a Renaissance palazzo until you explore the place further.
Locale – Via delle Seggiole, 12r, Florence

L’Antiquario – Naples
Also a newcomer – place 46 – is L’Antiquario. As the name suggests, there is a vintage atmosphere here; red velvet sofas, floral wallpaper, and bartenders in white uniforms. They open the door for you after you press the doorbell, because although the address is known, this is also a speakeasy. In addition to a classic menu featuring champagne cocktails, a selection of drinks pays homage to the history and heritage of Naples.
