These are the best destinations for a workation

Jealousy surges through my body when I hear that someone is going on a work vacation. Working hard until about two and then exploring a city: sounds almost too good to be true. Nowadays, you see it happening more and more, this ‘remote working’. Because why would you want to work at home at the dining table when you have the freedom to do it behind your laptop in a coffee shop? For these digital nomads, I have listed the three best cities that according to the Financieel Dagblad are perfect for a workation. Here it comes.
1. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Southeast Asia sucks in all the passport stamps of nomads like a magnet, with Bali as the ultimate favorite. When I look around, almost everyone has already booked their ticket to Bali. But Kuala Lumpur is hot on Bali's heels, which is now also being called a bit the Ibiza of Asia. Since the end of last year, you can now stay here for up to two years with a special visa, the ‘DE Rantau Nomad Pass’. Just for the prices there, you would book a one-way ticket. You can eat cheaply at the thousands of food stalls in Chinatown, and for less than €400 a month, you already have a centrally located studio apartment. Unfortunately, work still needs to be done, and you can honestly do that anywhere there, even in hotels.
2. Ponta Delgada, Azores
From all the photos and videos, you can hardly believe that this gem of a place is actually in Europe. That the Azores are also called the European Hawaii seems completely normal to me. The islands are exotic, green (especially that), and surrounded by a bright blue sea. Ponta Delgada, the capital of the Azores, is the place where all remote workers gather; a visa is NOT required, costs are much lower, fast wifi (even faster than in the Netherlands), and there is so much to experience: from spotting whales and dolphins to soaking in a hot spring, but you can also just hop to a neighboring island and hang out as a tourist there. A great after-work activity, if you ask me. One downside: the weather can be quite changeable, but a day of rain works wonders for your productivity.
3. Buenos Aires, Argentina
Always wanted to go far away, but quickly suffer from homesickness? Forget Kuala Lumpur and choose Buenos Aires. In this city, you really get the feeling that you are in Europe. The climate, the people, the food; the differences are not that great, except that the Argentine winters are much more pleasant than those in the Netherlands. Perfect if you want to spare yourself that winter dip. Furthermore, life is quite affordable there, and you can really crawl behind your laptop anywhere. In neighborhoods like Palermo, Villa Crespo, and Belgrano, there are dozens of public workspaces, and even in bookstores, you can get a cappuccino with free wifi.
