This restaurant has been voted the best tapas restaurant in the world

Best tapas bar

If there is one thing I could honestly eat every day, it would be tapas. That's not so strange, because the options are endless. Jamon Ibérico is something that will never bore me, delicious with some manchego on the side… And then those delicious homemade croquetas, the freshest fish or just calamari, maybe some albondigas on the side… My mouth is really watering now.

But tapas can also be a bit hit-or-miss. Even in Spain, you can sometimes go wrong by walking into a tourist trap; such a shame. Luckily, I'm here to help you out, because at this restaurant, you're definitely in good hands. No, better said: you're in the best hands. This restaurant has been voted the best in the world by 73 food critics, so you know it's good. And yes: it's located in Spain.

It is El Rinconcillo in Seville, which is also the oldest bar in the city — it has been around since 1670. The website Taste Atlas compared hundreds of different food critics, from Lonely Planet to Nigella Lawson, to investigate which restaurant would come out on top, and this one was far ahead at number one.

The top three further consists of Quimet y Quimet in Barcelona (at number two) and El Xampanyet, also in Barcelona.

Notably, there is one restaurant in the top ten that you won't find in Spain. I honestly expected the entire top ten, or even top fifty, to consist of Spanish hotspots, but that's not entirely true: Barrafina in London is at number eight.

And that's impressive, because in the top 100, there are only three restaurants outside of Spain: Barrafina in London, The Cellar in Doha, Qatar (at number 68) and Clamato in Paris, France (at number 86). Are you going to Spain soon? Then check here the full list.
