Netflix tip of the day: Bling Empire New York

Sometimes I am a simple person: give me a series set in New York and I am an instant fan. I watch an entire season in a week. In a day. Even the tragedy called And Just Like That (both seasons) I watched without too much complaining. New York just has something magical; no matter how bad the series is, with a setting like The Big Apple, you can't go wrong.

That's why I find series where the city really comes to the forefront, where the city is actually one of the main characters, the most enjoyable. Like Gossip Girl for example, or like Bling Empire: New York, which is now on Netflix. This is indeed a spin-off of the popular Bling Empire, which has Los Angeles as its setting. New cast, but just as much wealth and drama.

For example, the Hung family has a meager worth of two billion, with Tina Hung known as a fashion influencer. But there's also a real-life Blair Waldorf participating in the form of Nam Laks, who studies at Columbia University — we follow her during shopping sprees where she casually throws away 10K without a second thought. In short, every reason to want to see Bling Empire.

But this spin-off is indeed a bit different from the one in Los Angeles. No matter how rich this cast is, Bling Empire: New York deals with relatable topics. Dating comes up frequently, but also burnouts, family pressure, and what to do when someone in your environment passes away. Spin-offs are usually not really my thing, but for this one, I gladly make an exception. Highly recommended, and now available to watch.
