Concealer: this is how to apply it best

Do you prefer to wear foundation every day or can you not live without concealer? I asked this question to a large group of women and I found the results surprising: 47 percent go for foundation and 53 percent really choose concealer. I did not expect this, because one of the most googled beauty questions is really: how do I apply concealer the best? Looking at myself, I have only been using concealer for a few years, and I have been using foundation since my teenage years. Applying concealer is not that complicated, you would think: a dot here, a dot there, and just blend. The big problem is the moment when the product has been on your skin for a while. After just a few minutes, it starts to settle into your fine lines or literally sits on your skin, making it very noticeable. The color is also always tricky because you don’t want it too light, but definitely not too dark. If you have a bit more volume under your eyes (which you often can’t do anything about), I would also be careful with a thicker and more covering concealer. This makes your dark circles more visible, and we don’t want that. If the skin under your eyes is a bit bluer or purpler, then a concealer works best. A concealer is there to camouflage and neutralize so that it stands out less or not at all. Makeup artist Rose Siard has three very nice tips for your concealer problems, check them out here:

1. Finding the right color is not easy, but if your concealer is really too light for your skin, you will actually see more fine lines and the texture of your skin. Choosing a few shades lighter as a standard is therefore not a good idea, see the differences here and the tips on what to pay attention to:

2. Use a brush and not a beauty blender to blend your concealer on your skin. If you then want to ‘set’ your concealer with a setting powder, it’s better to use a puff instead of a brush. This old-fashioned puff is dipped in the loose powder and then you dab it on the back of your hand. This ensures that the powder does not sit on top of the puff but actually absorbs into it. Only then apply it under your eyes or the rest of your face for the best result:

3. Hydration is so important, no matter what your skin type is. The skin under your eyes is always a bit more sensitive and thinner than the rest of your face. A serum or cream with niacinamide works perfectly to hydrate the skin under your eyes. Then wait a few minutes for the product to be well absorbed into the skin before you start working with a concealer. See the difference under your eyes very clearly here:
