Dating Disasters: our waitress turned out to be his ex

In Dating Disasters vertellen anonieme lezers over hun gênantste, meest tenenkrommende en dramatische dates. Deze week: de bekende serveerster.
‘A few years ago, I had a blind date with someone I had mutual friends with. I knew nothing about him, except that he insisted on meeting at a specific restaurant. It was outside the city and inconvenient for me to get there, but in the end, I gave in. According to a mutual friend, we would be a perfect match.
When I arrived, I saw him sitting there. He looked particularly chic and was actually completely overdressed for the setting we were in. I decided that he was probably just as nervous as I was and thought about the pile of clothes still on my bedroom floor from the outfit stress that had happened less than an hour ago. Secretly, I had to laugh about it and I was glad that at least we had one thing in common.
Still, the date didn’t really take off. Not surprising, of course, when you’ve never seen each other and hardly spoken, but I always think: we know nothing about each other, so we can still tell each other everything? Apparently, he thought differently and kept nervously looking around. Every time the waitress came to our table, it got even weirder. Suddenly, he would start laughing really loudly or wanted to toast exaggeratedly with me. It was as if I was sitting at the table with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. After about an hour and a half, I made my excuses and left, slightly bewildered by what had just happened.
The next day, I told the story to my friend, who gave me the enlightening answer: the waitress turned out to be my date's ex, and he probably wanted to do everything to make her jealous. Hence his thoughtful outfit, the exaggerated laughing and toasting, and his talent for completely ignoring me as soon as no one was at our table. He was just not focused on me at all. By the way, our mutual friend didn’t know that my date had chosen this restaurant; otherwise, he would have put a stop to it. This evening took place years ago, but I have no intention of ever letting him forget what a horrible date he sent me on. Oh, and my date? He’s back with his ex. At least it’s nice to know that this bizarre plan worked for at least one of us.’
