Dating Disasters: ‘I watched how he crammed a quick workout into our date’

In Dating Disasters vertellen anonieme lezers over hun gênantste, meest tenenkrommende en dramatische dates. Deze week: when your date is actually too busy for you.
Before I met up with my Disaster Date, I decided to FaceTime him. I’ve heard enough horror stories to never go on a date unprepared again. Our conversation was incredibly pleasant, so all the nerves I had for the first moment we would see each other disappeared immediately.
Unfortunately, those nerves quickly gave way to feelings of complete confusion and the idea that I was being ridiculously taken for a fool on the night of our date. We agreed to meet at his place. Maybe not the smartest move, but he didn’t live alone and I had already spoken to him via FaceTime, after which no alarm bells had gone off. We had discussed the time of our date three times, so you can imagine my surprise when I arrived at the agreed time and he wasn’t ready yet. He made me wait for half an hour until he finally came downstairs in a tracksuit with his dog on a leash tied around his waist. He asked if we could take a little walk. I don’t know what he was doing up there, but it certainly had nothing to do with getting ready, judging by how he looked.
After the way-too-long walk (in my sky-high sitting heels), we finally arrived back at his house. He offered me a glass of water and indicated that he hadn’t had time to work out yet, asking if it was okay for him to do a quick circuit. So, with half a glass of water in my hand, I watched him squeeze a quick workout into our date. You’d think this would be the moment to leave, right? Wrong. Completely frozen and trying my hardest not to laugh, I waited for him to finish while his workout playlist played songs like ‘Unwritten’ and ‘Put Your Records On’. He thought I would like that, he said later. I couldn’t bring myself to say that I would have preferred it if he just sat down next to me.
You’re probably wondering what the last straw was after I had already endured all these red flags. Don’t worry: that last straw came quickly. He was going to cook for me, something I was actually looking forward to. I mean, you have to eat. Unfortunately, that enthusiasm quickly faded when I saw what was on the menu: two containers of something that looked like meal prep that were about to be heated up in the microwave. At that moment, I pretended I had to leave and said I would text him later. As quickly as I could, I rushed out of his building, after which he texted me that he wanted to give me a second chance. A second chance? Him to me? SERIOUSLY? I texted back that it wasn’t necessary and, I’m not proud of it, I blocked his number. Everything about this man screamed ‘weird’ and I wanted nothing more to do with it.
