Dating Disasters: ‘If I could take my shirt off right away’

In Dating Disasters vertellen anonieme lezers over hun gênantste, meest tenenkrommende en dramatische dates. Deze week: the masseur.

My craziest date ever took place years ago. I was about 18 and still living at home, but I really wanted to meet up with a friend of a friend that I had seen a few times. So, after a short conversation on MSN (as you do as a teenager in 2011), he hopped on his scooter towards my house. It was my parents' personal hell that their oldest daughter was picked up by a stubborn little guy on a souped-up vehicle. We hadn't heard of helmets back then, and I had wasted my phone credit on my fresh date. They hoped I would come home safe. Now that I'm 30, I can't even think about my daughter doing this to me one day, so here it is: sorry dad and mom.

Anyway, we left together towards the dike, the place where people our age gathered in the evenings. Strangely enough, there was no one there at that moment, and we had it all to ourselves. Fine by me. I actually liked this guy a lot. Unfortunately, that didn't last long. I told him how busy I was with school, my part-time job, and my internship, and how hard I found it to keep all the balls in the air. He said he had something for that, but I would have to take off my shirt. Yep. He wanted to give me a massage right there on the dike, where the chilly October wind was doing its best. WITHOUT A SHIRT. Now, I was quite a naïve teenager, but even I knew it was time to go. I made up an excuse about not feeling well and let him drop me off at home. Our mutual friend later gave him a talking-to that this wasn't quite how you treat women, after which my date apologized. Apparently, he also found it a bit awkward of himself. Knowing myself, I didn't care much for his apology and by that time I was already busy with something else, because I never saw him again. He is now well into his 30s and I know he has kids of his own, so I hope that he, just like me, also thinks back to that evening and takes this story with him in his lesson what not to do to his sons.
