Dietitians are not happy with the ‘Girl dinner’ trend

Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the food lovers of online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat and what to cook. This time: The trend ‘Girl dinner’ is hot but dietitians are not happy.
Hot on TikTok: the ‘girl dinner’ trend. A few minutes of scrolling and you will undoubtedly see some unusual creations. But dietitians are not happy with the craze. Many girl dinners are actually not that healthy. Is that really so concerning? Or is it just nitpicking?
Girl dinners are actually a bit of the lazy version of chaos cooking. With chaos cooking, you can still come up with culinary masterpieces. The Big Mac pizza is a good example of chaos cooking, where you use the ingredients of a Big Mac as toppings on pizza dough. You still have to be quite creative for that. With girl dinners, it's... different. There is hardly any cooking involved.
WAFFLES WITH WHITE BEANS OR A CAN OF CORN
But what exactly is girl dinner? If you had to describe it in a few keywords: comfort food, lazy, and tasty. You grab what you like from the cupboard and throw it together. And that can really be anything. A plate with waffles and a can of white beans in tomato sauce, for example. Also seen: macaroni shells with a lump of butter inside. Even a simple can of corn can be a girl dinner. As long as you find it tasty – and as long as you are in a gigantic lazy mood.

CONCERNING TREND?
That a bag of M&M's with a can of cola is not very nutritious as dinner is something everyone understands. But that is exactly why dietitians are not very happy with girl dinners. In an article from Metro, there are a few statements from dietitian Laura Ligos, who had a conversation with CBS News. She believes that a meal should at least consist of enough carbohydrates, proteins, and calories, no matter how simple that meal is. The fact that women eat too little because of girl dinners is also not something she supports. Family doctor LaTasha Perkins also indicates in the interview that she is not happy with it. She expresses concern that the trend normalizes unhealthy eating.
Of course, it makes sense that dietitians and family doctors do not support the girl dinners on TikTok. But is it really, really that bad to occasionally indulge in a lazy meal? We all crave a girl dinner sometimes, right? The commotion seems to us to be nitpicking during a slow news period.
