Starting this winter, you will fly directly to Norwegian Lapland

Lapland

Fiiiiinally. This has been on my bucket list for so long and it really seems to be happening now. And even better, because this is a combination of bucket list items: I really want to see the northern lights (in Iceland I unfortunately didn't have that luck), I want to see huskies AND I want to go to Lapland. Of course, all of that was possible before, but I found the trip there to be so much hassle and really very expensive.

But starting this summer, that's going to be very different, because Transavia will offer direct flights to Tromsø. That is in Norwegian Lapland and is the destination where people go for all the things I mentioned above. One more thing I forgot: you also see a huge number of reindeer here. So fun.

Tromsø is located at 70 degrees north latitude, so well above the Arctic Circle. The airport (and the center of the town) is on the island of Tromsøya and is praised for its fairy-tale surroundings. Snow everywhere, a very good chance of seeing the northern lights, and orcas are often spotted as well. How cool. You can hardly go further north than this, unless you go to the island of Spitsbergen; you can fly there from Tromsø, if you want.

By the way, you can already plan that trip; these flights are already bookable via Transavia. The flights will be between December 1 and April 1, exactly the period when you have the best chance of seeing the northern lights. But no worries: there is still a lot more to do. Because Tromsø is also seen as the northernmost student city in Europe, so there are plenty of nice restaurants and bars.

Aaahh, this seriously makes my day. Seeing the northern lights (and the huskies, don't forget those) is something you want to have done in your life, right? Let’s goooo, Tromsø. It's only a 3 hour and 15 minute flight; I expected it to be much longer. Another pleasant surprise.
