These are all the don’ts for your dating profile

Is it just not working out for you to score a new sweetheart through the wonderful world of online dating? Then it might just be that your dating profile needs a much-needed makeover. With so many people having the same goal (whether it's finding true love or scoring a one-time adventure) at the same time in the same city, it's also hard to really stand out. Are your dating apps drier than dry and could your matches use a boost? Then make sure you don't do these four things on your dating profile.

1. Only posting group photos
When did you think this was a good idea? It's nice to see that you have friends, but which one of the six are you actually? The average attention span of swiping singles lasts about one and a half seconds, so if it's not immediately clear who is actually behind that profile, you're already out. The first photo should always be a solo shot.

2. Not filling out your profile
The more information you add to your profile, the more likely you are to attract people who are really good matches for you. Incomplete profiles often come across as uninterested and rushed, and those are exactly the character traits that your potential matches will absolutely thank you for avoiding. Just be careful not to share too much on your dating profile, as that can come off as a bit desperate. Choose the subtle middle ground and try to provide information while leaving some things to the imagination. It's damn near higher mathematics, but once you master this, you'll see that you won't be able to keep up with your matches.

3. Poor spelling and grammar
Okay, not all of us were born with a golden pen in our hand, but double-checking your spelling and grammar is the least you can do before you throw your new, slightly mysterious bio online. I'm not making this up. 53 percent of singles find poor grammar and spelling the biggest turn-off on dating apps if we are to believe the survey from dating website Plenty of Fish. A quick spell check is therefore not a luxury.

4. Being too general
Would you swipe right on someone who loves traveling, food, and coziness? Exactly: no. If you did, you could swipe the entire world to the right. Of course, it's nice that you share such interests, but what do you actually mean when you say you're a fan of coziness? You enjoy doing fun things with nice people around you? Groundbreaking. Additionally, traveling can mean something different for everyone. If you want to backpack through Australia, you're not a match for someone who prefers to camp in Sneek every year. So try to elaborate a bit on your interests. Are you a seasoned globetrotter? Then put a cool travel story on your profile or share a photo of your adventures. This way, you attract like-minded matches without drowning in a sea of people with the most general hobbies ever.
