How many oliebollen do you need to eat to gain 1 kilo?

It's that happy time of year again. Yes, absolutely wonderful. But not so great for the jeans among us.

Because they need to be able to be neatly done again in January.

Oh, one or two oliebollen won't make a difference, I hear you think. That's true. Still, I was curious: how much do you actually have to eat to gain a whole kilo? Quite a lot: 39 oliebollen, to be precise. There are 166 kilocalories in 1 piece (65 grams) of oliebol, filled with raisins or currants. The ball contains about 6 grams of fat. That's not too bad. Especially when you compare it to its companion, the apple turnover. That contains double the number of calories: 365, approximately.

After eating 39 oliebollen (please don't see it as a challenge), you would be about a kilo heavier. It doesn't happen as quickly as you might think. For every half kilo, it involves an extra intake of 3,500 calories, on top of the average intake of 2,000. So you really have to work hard with your dinners, lunches, and drinks.

A kilo more or less isn't a big deal, just enjoy these cozy days of the year with your loved ones. And eat what you feel like. But if you could keep it to a maximum of 38 pieces... Very wise.
