‘Good morning and wake up and smell the Met Gala inspiration’ is how May, Lot and I woke up this morning in our ‘Met Gala’ group chat. What started off quietly with Doja Cat and her red carpet look inspired by Choupette, Karl Lagerfeld's cat, quickly exploded our conversation with one must-know fact after another. After examining the looks fashion- and beauty-wise under our magnifying glasses, it’s now time to sift through all the other events. There were not one, but two pregnancy announcements.

1. There were not one, but there were two pregnancy announcements at the Met Gala last night. Both Karlie Kloss and Serena Williams are expecting their second child and proudly showed off their baby bumps while posing for photographers.

2. Nicole Kidman pulled a very famous dress out of the closet for the 2023 Met Gala. She walked the red carpet in a Chanel Haute Couture dress that Nicole wore in 2014 in the iconic Chanel No.5 commercial. You know, the one where she escapes a red carpet in the dress and jumps into a taxi with Rodrigo Santoro to then spend an incredibly romantic time together.

3. Kim Kardashian's custom naked dress by Schiaparelli’s Daniel Roseberry features 50,000 freshwater pearls and 16,000 crystals. What do you think? Does it surpass the iconic Marilyn Monroe dress from 1962?

4. Mothers and daughters are a thing this year. We have Kim Kardashian and North West, Kate and Lila Moss, and we even spot Stormi holding hands with Kylie Jenner.

5. For those who missed Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds.. Blake celebrated Met Monday with... pumping. Blake shared a bathroom selfie on her Instagram stories and earlier this week already announced that they will not be attending this year. Although the Lively-Reynolds household has not disclosed a specific reason, we guess they are still enjoying their baby bubble. They promise to be back next year!

6. Funny fact: Chloe Fineman, who is co-hosting, has impersonated at least half of the red carpet guests on Saturday Night Live.

7. Although the two have been dating for five years, the 2023 Met Gala was their debut as a couple. Hashtag couple goals.

8. There is quite a bit of criticism being expressed about the ‘red’ carpet of the 2023 Met Gala as we speak. It is going viral on Twitter as ‘it’s giving Colgate’ and Kylie Jenner is being dubbed Colgate Queen on the toothpaste carpet in her red-blue dress. Secretly quite funny, but this is of course not the real inspiration behind the red-white-blue line play. Museum curator Andrew Bolton explains that it is also a subtle tribute to Karl Lagerfeld and the exhibition. ‘Thematically, the exhibition looks at lines – literal lines seen in Karl Lagerfeld's drawings, and the thematic lines that run through his oeuvre,’ says Bolton.

9. Meghan and Harry were not (bummer!) at the Met Gala. Why? It has everything to do with their desire to remain low-key. So stealing the show at the Met Gala, just before Charles's coronation, would probably have been a moment they decided to avoid. And to be honest: we totally understand, but secretly we really crossed our fingers hoping they would receive their Met Gala invite with open arms and we wanted to see them shine at Met Monday.
