Here you eat the best ramen in the world

Best ramen

Things I find stupid: that you can still eat really good ramen in too few places, that the places that are known for it still don't have lines out the door, and that it's often quite expensive as well. All three are a shame because I find ramen so delicious. And yes, even that Buldak Cheesy Carbonara goes down really well with me, even though it has nothing authentic — it's just the ultimate comfort food.

Now I must honestly admit that the closest I've come to ‘authentic’ is Taiwan, but I'm saving hard for my Tokyo Food Bucket List. That city seems amazing to me, but I would sincerely want to research the restaurants in advance — I want to go there for the food alone for a month.

Because ramen, they really know how to make it in Tokyo. In fact: you can find the best in the world, according to TimeOut, at Kikanbo. And they are especially known for the spicy ramen, so if you like it hot, this is the place to go. They serve ramen here in five levels of spiciness, in two categories: ‘kara’ and ‘shibi’.

‘Kara’ stands for the spiciness of the chili peppers and ‘shibi’ for the numbing spiciness of the sansho pepper mix (the Japanese variant of Szechuan pepper). According to visitors, the standard ramen at Kanbiko is already quite spicy, so you have to be a bit careful with that.

And the best part? Ramen here costs you about six euros. SIX. I recently spent almost twenty euros on a very mediocre variant. Off to Tokyo then, saving has really begun now.
