The week of your editor-in-chief

May's Diary

Guys, it's been a while since I took you along for a week. During Covid, my life wasn't exactly exciting and then I think I lost it for a bit, but here I am again with May's week. Because as an editor-in-chief, you sometimes end up in places that are too fun not to share and I hope you get something out of it too.

Friday
Last week it was Good Friday and my girls were off and up early. So, my friend Kiki and I stuffed the car full of blonde girls, who just happened to be ours, and headed to Amsterdam. Lunching with a large group is always a good idea at Café Restaurant Amsterdam. It's big, cozy, and tasty, and there's almost always a table available. It was raining fries (delicious thin ones), we dove into the soup and of course saw at least two tables we knew. After that, shopping was on the agenda and we did that in the Jordaan. Like a big magnet, Tableware in the Westerstraat drew us in. The owner buys tableware from France, or those round bistro tables with a marble top, and champagne coupes and large silver wine coolers. With a drop of drool in the corner of my mouth and shouting ‘watch out, watch out’ (because it's tiny and packed), we circled through the store. My haul consisted of six coupes and a bowl in which I will present seventy salads this summer. And I hope to score a little something again this afternoon.

Monday
We live by a picturesque park where the residents are very fond of traditions. Easter egg hunting with all the kids who live by the park is a relatively new one. The mothers hide eggs (with the huge golden egg as the big lure) and the kids search, collect, and divide the loot. The spectacle was topped off with a stack of pancakes and white rolls with hot dogs. For Flo, so far, the highlight of the year.

Wednesday
Just as you have stain on stain on stain situations, they also exist the other way around. Plus and plus and plus cases. Wednesday was one of those. I was invited to the presentation of Legology, a brand that has products that make your legs look prettier and smoother. The chosen location was the Movements Yoga Studio on the Overtoom, which happens to belong to a dear former colleague of mine. And part of the presentation was a Pilates class in the heated studio. For that, I lovingly arranged a babysitter for Flo and rescheduled all my Wednesday appointments. It was a party, and if you're curious about Legology's products: I wrote about it here.

Thursday
Thursday was a how-do-I-get-it-all-done day. It started with a brunch that Quinty Trustfull organized for the launch of her collection with Summum Woman. Now, Quinty is a dear one from ‘the industry’ with whom I once experienced one of my most memorable TV moments. We actually had a serious case of the giggles on live TV together. intensely the giggles.

Anyway, and Summum Woman supported Amayzine when we were just starting out, ten years ago, so of course, I was there. Quinty had arranged a fantastic location in Abcoude where we brunch in the greenhouse with a view of the pollarded willows and waving reeds. Plates from Menno Kroon, a six-layer cake with edible flowers, scones, bagels with mozzarella and pesto, all lovely women (Anouk Smulders, Leontine Ruiters, Marvy Rieder, Quinty's sister, and so on) and of course the mouthwatering masterpieces that Quinty and Jorien, the founder of Summum, developed together.

Being lifted through the grass on Anouk's back made the morning golden. And then on to the next session: the fall/winter presentation of Marc Cain. Also Marc Cain is a brand we've been working with for years. Their quality is of the highest level and they are celebrating their fiftieth anniversary this year and developed a capsule collection to celebrate this momentous occasion. I can't say anything about it, but that coat, I must, will, and want.

After that, Daan (who had jumped in the car with me by now) and I headed to the Jordaan (deceptively close to Tableware but I held back), where De’Longhi had created a cold brew coffee pop-up. We drank a salty caramel cold brew coffee, caught up with the lovely Thijs Willekes (who does PR for De’Longhi) and some other friendly freelancers and danced with a goodie bag (I am a fan of the double-walled De’Longhi glasses, there's one next to me as I write that is begging for a refill) towards the car. Just a quick stop at the office before heading through the traffic towards Haarlem where my favorite class was waiting for me: an hour of barre with Olga-Isabelle. And then into bed with tea.

I wish you a wonderful weekend. See you next week.
