Netflix tip of the day: Our Planet II

By

Is there anything more soothing than the voice of Sir David Attenborough? As far as I'm concerned, no yoga or meditation session can compete with that. I can listen to his voice for hours, combined with the beautiful images where he tells the most interesting and beautiful stories. Just like in Our Planet on Netflix, the first part of which came online in 2019. Beautiful images; so beautiful it makes you want to cry. It may sound a bit silly, but every time I watch his documentaries, I am amazed again at how special our earth actually is. But I also find it remarkable to see how everything works: how animals cooperate, how everything is connected, and what the (sadly) impact of humans is on that. Yes, actually every time I watch, I have my own little Circle of Life moment.

Just like in Our Planet II, which has recently been released on Netflix. I might find this one even more beautiful than the first part, as far as that is possible. Again, so beautiful it makes you want to cry, but literally: I have really sat crying in front of the TV because of a polar bear cub that is so weakened and cannot find support because the ice melts more and more every summer. Did you know that it costs polar bears five times as much energy to swim than to walk? I didn't, and now I do thanks to Sir Attenborough. Heartbreaking to see such a small cub fighting for its life at the melting ice caps.

This wet mop didn't stay dry at several moments, like with the young albatrosses, who spread their wings for the first time at the risk of their own lives after being left alone by their parents for weeks. The sharks are lurking in the water, and when the wind dies down, it can be over for them in a second.

Yes, nature is merciless, as Our Planet II shows again. But it especially shows how incredibly beautiful our world actually is. Sometimes you need a reminder of that.
