Netflix tip of the day: Pamela, a love story

When the series Pam & Tommy was announced, it could already count on a lot of criticism before the release. For example, how the leaked sex tape was handled, and how traumatic that was for Pamela Anderson herself. She also didn't hide the fact that she wasn't exactly thrilled about this series. Understandably so: it seems really bizarre to me if someone takes your worst, traumatic memory away from you, wants to make money off it (for the second time), and brings it back into the public eye.
This documentary is also a kind of response to that, because Pamela wants to take back control over her own life. It's about telling her own experience, her side of the story. She did this in collaboration with Netflix (Pam & Tommy was on Hulu), after which her documentary titled Pamela, A Love Story became a reality.
An absolute recommendation, even if you have no idea who or what Pamela Anderson actually is. I come from 1989, so her relationship with Tommy Lee was a hot topic in my younger years. After that, I also found her a fascinating woman; from her remarkable friendship with Julian Assange to her surprising taste in men (who on earth has a crush on Kid Rock?).
In this docu, it mainly comes forward that Pam is a very sensitive woman, and the docu gives a very different image of her than how you probably know her from the media. And I even find that a bit nauseating; how intensely the media have influenced her life and made it more difficult.
I watched the first two episodes of Pam & Tommy and after seeing this docu, I actually feel guilty about it. I think that says enough, right? Highly recommended, this one.
