Netflix Tip of the Day: Maybe I Do

Yesss, it's romcom time again, and what a one it is. I must honestly admit that I almost didn't click on this movie because I (sorry) am not such a fan of Emma Roberts. But then I looked beyond my nose and saw that the rest of the cast consists of Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon, William H. Macy, and Diane Keaton. Well, when you read those names, not much convincing is needed.
And I can tell you: this movie is genuinely fun and not your standard romcom. It's about Michelle (Emma Roberts) who is in a relationship with Allen (Luke Bracey), but she needs more from the relationship. More future, more security, perhaps a ring on a certain finger? And otherwise, as far as she's concerned, it's the end of the story between the two. Allen doesn't want that either, so he suggests that they take the next step: their parents need to meet each other. Sounds like a logical move in a relationship.
There's just a small problem: their parents already know each other. They are actually involved in a pretty messy swingers story, but they don't know it themselves. Michelle's father is having an affair with Allen's mother, and Allen's mother is having an affair with Michelle's father. So they don't know about each other: a partner swap without consultation, actually.
Far-fetched? Unrealistic? Ab-so-lutely. But also seriously funny, chaotic, and in a delightful clumsy way, full of mysteries and misunderstandings. The movie actually reminded me of this episode in terms of chaos:

Then you know it's good, right? Thanks Netflix, finally another nice romcom that we can laugh about.
