Ode to Kate Middleton's outfits

When we talk about Kate Middleton's fashion style, you might quickly think of a coat dress, a tone-on-tone suit, or a flowy dress. But if you look further, you know that Kate's style is much more than that. It is classic and downright royal-worthy, and the Duchess of Cambridge certainly owes that not only to an army of stylists but just as much to herself. Kate is known for intentionally recycling her outfits, she shops just like you and me at Zara, she never forgets Diana, and she has a clear preference for a number of very fine designers. And okay... In the name of fashion, we thought it was time for a tribute to Kate's best looks. From now, but certainly also from old times. Priceless and custom-made but just as much from the Zara sale and on Veja sneakers: everything looks stunning on her.
Kate's best affordable items
Let's start with Zara, her all-time favorite. In recent years, a number of items from Zara, sometimes even from the sale, have gone viral. First of all, Kate and her Zara blazers, where she was spotted multiple times, but also a beauty of a houndstooth midi skirt, a pleated midi skirt in leopard print, a black-and-white checkered dress with a belt at the waist, and earcatchers from earrings that turned out to be ‘just’ from Zara are items that made us check out at Zara immediately. Other affordable brands where we have spotted Kate include Veja, &Other Stories, H&M, and Mango.

The most beautiful dresses ever worn
A selection from many more beautiful dresses than the pieces below, these are just a handful that are still talked about today by us, fashion journalists, and royal fans. So beautiful.

1. All eyes were on Kate during the evening reception in Belize. The bright pink dress called Light Sleeper is again from the brand The Vampire’s Wife and is vintage-inspired with a boat neck and ruffles on the shoulders.
2. During the premiere of No Time to Die in 2021, Kate wore a dress by Jenny Packham with an infinite number of sequins, a low V-neck, and a beautifully draped cape.
3. In 2020, Kate visited the Guinness Storehouse in a shiny dark green dress from The Vampire’s Wife that everyone fell in love with.
4. In 2016, but still not forgotten, it was the dress from Self-Portrait that made all our fashion hearts skip a beat during the premiere of A Street Cat Named Bob.
On repeat
Although Kate was initially plagued by paparazzi for wearing the same item twice with ‘thrifty Kate’, the Duchess actually conveys an incredibly good and strong message: the importance of sustainability in fashion.
A dress that Kate has worn no less than four times, including once in 2012 during the National Portrait Gallery and two years later, in 2016, during a visit to RAF Fairford.
Another favorite is the coat with a belt from Alexander McQueen worn in 2014 during a visit to New Zealand and about five years later again during an engagement in Birkenhead.

Diana forever
Kate honors her late mother-in-law like no other, especially when it comes to jewelry. Kate carries Diana with her during many different moments through the most beautiful jewels from her jewelry collection.
Perhaps the most famous piece in Kate's jewelry collection: her engagement ring of sapphire and diamond, which previously belonged to none other than: Diana.
A favorite earring with diamonds and South Sea pearls was worn by Princess Diana, among others, in 1996 during a visit to Australia. Kate was first spotted with that same earring in 2019 during the BAFTA Awards.

And just a quick rundown of Kate's favorite designers:
Erdem, Christopher Kane, Alexander McQueen, Preen, Elie Saab, and Alessandra Rich. Furthermore, the somewhat more affordable brands LK Bennett, Self-Portrait, Reiss, Beulah, and Marks & Spencer are among Kate's favorite brands.
