Fans are not happy with Taylor Swift's new love

Recently, it was revealed that Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn have broken up after a six-year relationship. The reason: Joe supposedly couldn't handle her enormous stardom. You would think he could have figured that out in those six years, but it's a bit different. When they met, Taylor was practically in hiding, after her intense feud with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West (Kim had leaked a tape of a phone conversation between Kanye and Taylor). She then released Reputation, with a whole new image, and soon after, corona hit. Taylor and Joe spent a lot of time in their house in London, as the world was in lockdown.

When the corona period came to an end, something of the ‘old’ Taylor returned, and she is now fully back with her Eras Tour. Rumors circulated that it was all a bit too much for Joe. It seems that Taylor has processed that break-up well, as she has a new love: Matty Healy, the singer of The 1975. He was spotted at her concerts in Nashville, and also when he left her apartment the next day in that same city. And just yesterday, when they were out to dinner with Jack Antonoff (who is said to have set them up) and Margaret Qualley in New York City.

Fans of Taylor are not really happy that she is dating this Matty. And I can confirm and explain that, as a big fan of Taylor Swift. This guy is unfortunately quite problematic.

For instance, in January 2023 he gave a Nazi salute on stage, and that same month he appeared on a podcast where he made racist comments about rapper Ice Spice: he mimicked her accent and described her as ‘that chubby Chinese girl.’ He has also kissed fans on stage more than once, including minors, and received quite a bit of criticism for that. His response on stage was: ‘The internet says this is ‘grooming.’ So I guess my question is: who wants some grooming?’ Classy.

He generally says some awkward (understatement) things on stage, like in Portland: ‘Hey Portland, where everyone has ten pronouns but no job.’

Many of these incidents are quite recent, so it was to be expected that Taylor's fans wouldn't fully support this. Taylor often speaks out as a feminist, and this Matty Healy seems to be anything but that for now. But hey, maybe it's a case of ‘love is blind’? Or will her influence be so good that he becomes a better person too? We'll just have to wait and see.
