The pregnancy announcement trend of 2024 is different than you would think

By

I wrote about it before: actually, I find a lot of pregnancy announcements a bit awkward . Whether it's awkward Instagram captions or videos of a happy couple pushing a pregnancy test into the hands of their friends and family (or worse: into the food of friends and family, for heaven's sake), I have nothing to do with it. Maybe it's because I've never been pregnant myself and therefore don't know what it feels like to want to shout it from the rooftops, but I actually think it's due to a new trend in social media land. People seem to be becoming increasingly aware of their digital footprint and are therefore collectively deciding to share less on social media.. In my surroundings, I already see it happening: fewer Stories are being posted and feed posts are scarce in 2023. Instagram has of course caused this itself (because what's going on with that algorithm?), but I can relate to it. Oversharing is so 2022 and in 2024 it's definitely not part of the game anymore.

Fewer photos of our dinner and weekend plans are being shared, and the 'undersharing' trend is even rolling through to the pregnancy announcements of friends, family, and celebs. More and more people are choosing to keep their pregnancy to themselves for as long as possible, and definitely not sharing when they are due after nine (as stress-free as possible) months. Once the baby is here, the world can know, but even then, the Instagram account of the new parents doesn't revolve entirely around their bundle of joy.

When it comes to your pregnancy, enjoying in privacy is the way to go in 2024 and I am all for it.
