Proven: women with younger men are more satisfied in a relationship

Kim Kardashian and Pete on the red carpet

The list of women dating younger partners is getting longer. Just think of Kim Kardashian who briefly dated Pete Davidson or Olivia Wilde's fling with Harry Styles last year. In both ex-couples, there was a ten-year age difference. Yet, an older woman with a younger partner is still seen more as the exception to the rule. Let's leave this outdated image behind us right away, because what turns out: women with younger men are more satisfied than women in other types of relationships.

During a study on this is a survey distributed among two hundred heterosexual women who are in a relationship. The age differences between the woman and man were entirely random: one woman was, for example, 22 years older than the man, the other woman was younger than the man. A bit of everything, therefore. The surveys showed that women who were more than ten years older than their male partner were by far the most satisfied in their relationship. This has two reasons that actually don't sound so crazy, if you ask me.

1. More equality
Because the ‘power dynamics’ change a bit, there is more equality in the relationship. Normally, women with an older man sometimes do not feel equal, and with a younger partner, women have this feeling of inequality less. Many studies have shown that equality in a relationship makes people happier. So, not a very crazy theory when you think about it.

2. Woman empowerment
As a result of that equality, ‘older’ women gain a bit more courage in the relationship. They are more likely to speak up when something is wrong and get what they want faster. This creates a sense of empowerment among women, which should be the key to a good relationship. Maybe it's time we give younger men a chance more often.
