Schiphol, seriously?

Is it going to be queuing at the back again this summer?

Dick Benschop is gone, a temporary troubleshooter (Ruud Sondag) has stepped in, and there are still ‘only’ dozens of security personnel needed, so you would think: piece of cake, this year Schiphol is back in full swing. Well, not really. Because while a whole lot of security personnel have been added, other gaps have not been filled. According to Parool, there is a shortage of staff on all fronts. People who connect the jet bridge to the aircraft, people who bring the luggage to the plane, and so on. The reason for the shortages? They are paid too little. And even with equal pay, people now think as they enter the third year of misery at Schiphol: I’m going to work somewhere else. And who can blame them?.

Now airlines are being asked to voluntarily cancel flights. And of course, the airlines are not interested in that. According to the unions, it could be solved with about ten million extra in wage costs for the ground handlers. You already have that amount if you charge a few euros more per ticket. I think everyone would be willing to pay that. You would almost want to quote Louis van Gaal, because the management of Schiphol can't be that stupid, right?

I think in any case that Center Parcs and Roompot with cottages in their own country are going to have a great year again.
