Women can smell the difference between single and taken men

Sometimes you come across a study and you think: hey, this could totally be about me, and other times you think: what the..? That last one was the case this time, but I must honestly say that I never consciously smell men when I meet them. And apparently, I should, because according to recent research, women seem to be able to smell the difference between single men and taken men. Excuse me?
And this can be traced all the way back to evolution, because back then we already had a nose for it. And that was necessary, because it was important at the time that we would reproduce, and thus find a suitable partner. Apparently, this is still the case in 2022.
In short: single men smell worse. And that is good and necessary, because we single women can pick up their scent. They investigated this by having 82 heterosexual women smell T-shirts worn by 91 men, of which 45 were taken and 46 were single. These men had worn this shirt for 24 hours before it was sniffed.
And indeed: women could smell very well which man was taken and which was not. Is this perhaps a new life hack? Are you afraid that your new fling might have a girlfriend? Living a double life? Just take a sniff and you'll know enough.
