5x the best movies and series for during a break-up

Heartbreak, we all get our turn eventually. This time it's mine. Not fun, I've found out, and in the end, there's hardly anything you can do about it. One of the few remedies is distraction. And a good movie. Movies that for a change do NOT revolve around two people falling in love. Because let's be honest: that only makes you miserable. Especially for the broken hearts among us, I've put together a small selection of films and series that put your heartbreak in perspective, or that work therapeutically. Whatever you're in the mood for at that moment.
1. Someone Great
This film remains a favorite. I'm already a fan because of actress Gina Rodriguez (also known as Jane Villanueva from Jane the Virgin) who plays the lead role. But I personally find the storyline in this film even better. She just broke up with her boyfriend whom she has been with for years. She seeks distraction with her two best friends, and actually, life is going pretty okay for her. Until she suddenly runs into him at a party. Relatable for many, I think.
2. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills
Sorry, this series really had to be included. Because if you think your life is miserable right now, this is your reminder that it can be even worse. In the series of no less than 12 seasons, you'll quickly find out that millions in the bank are still no guarantee for a successful love life. Almost half of the housewives are completely single or going through a nasty divorce. Plus, it's just hilarious, so if you want to laugh: please watch this.
3. Marriage Story
Another tearjerker. Cannot help it. This time it's about a married couple. They both seem to have it all together, both lawyers with good jobs. Until it doesn't work anymore. They separate with a child who bears all the sadness. In other words: crying time. PS. The woman in question, Nicole, is actress Scarlett Johansson. All the more reason to give this film a chance.
4. The Best Of Me
Does this film necessarily make you feel better? Absolutely not. Can you cry a lot? Definitely. The film is about two childhood sweethearts — you can probably sense the drama coming — who meet again after 21 years. And this naturally brings a lot of drama with it. But especially the ending: wow, get those tissues ready. Still, I recommend it, because sometimes other people's pain is nice too.
5. The Other Woman
Cameron Diaz has the lead role, so there's a good chance I don't even need to convince you. But I'll do it anyway. The name gives it away: there is indeed another woman in the marriage. But not one, no, two even. All three decide to take revenge, and they do so in a very funny way. From hormones to laxatives, it's all there. You might even get some ideas.
