A new era has begun: de-influencing. I have no idea how it is for you, but I am daily overwhelmed with the latest must-haves, and as soon as I see something a few times, I'm already sold. In that regard, I'm an easy target. Fortunately, there is now a trend where influencers advise against hyped products to combat overconsumption. Super nice, because maybe this way I can keep my package delivery person a little friendly.

The de-influencing trend is still fresh off the press. After beauty guru Mikayla Nogueira was accused of wearing false eyelashes during a paid mascara campaign for L’Oréal, TikTok was in an uproar. How could she do this? Do all influencers do this? Are they even credible anymore? Since then, there has been a kind of movement where influencers make videos titled ‘de-influence with me’. In these, they show products that are praised to the skies by content creators but are actually not worth the hype at all.

The Charlotte Tilbury contour wands are really being torn apart: the tubes are said to be only half full, the applicator is cheap, and it is said to be way too overpriced. Well, I can agree with that, because 36 euros for a bronzer is actually ridiculous. I should have thought of that a little earlier, because I also have it at home including the blush and highlighter. Oops.

Whether this trend will really make a difference, I wonder. Because let's be honest: the thrill of new things is wonderful. Before you know it, the next order is already placed to relive that ultimate moment of happiness. Until you get a Klarna reminder and have to pay off that one blouse you are already tired of. But wisdom comes with age, they say. Fingers crossed.
