This is the toxic dating trend that you want to avoid at all costs

By

Every time I come across something about dating trends, my jaw drops in amazement. I understand that our generation has become so cynical about finding love, as it is made anything but easy for us. Where I left off with ghosting, micro-cheating and infla-dating, a new trend has recently emerged in the modern dating jungle: mid-mute dating.

I know: it sounds like I'm making it up, but unfortunately, nothing could be further from the truth. Mid-mute dating happens more often than you think. What is it? Experts explain it as a phenomenon where the person you are dating mutes your notifications throughout the week and thus talks little to not at all to you, because he or she only sees you as a weekend fling. There is no greater sign that you are not a priority for someone, but it is still difficult to detect. Is someone ignoring you or are they just busy?

If your date is not honest about this, then you need to be honest with yourself in this case. If you strongly feel that you are not a priority for someone, then that is probably the case. It may sound harsh, but this behavior indicates that your date sees little future in your relationship, is not very enthusiastic about you, and may be dating multiple people at the same time. Well, you would rather be rid of such people than keep them around.

But how do you know if someone is ‘mid-muting’ you? Experts say that if a pattern emerges where there is generally little to no communication from Sunday to Thursday, you can safely say that you are mainly seen as weekend fun. So if your date doesn't think about you all week and suddenly asks about your weekend plans at the last minute, this is not a reason for a happy dance and sending an enthusiastic screenshot of your conversation to your friends (let's be honest: we've all been guilty of this at some point).

Now, I absolutely do not want to say that all people who are genuinely busy are suddenly all ‘mid-muters’ who should be avoided at all costs, but what is important when you are just getting to know someone is to take the time to learn someone's habits and calmly see if these are positive or negative habits. In case of doubts, always follow your feelings, listen to the thoughts of friends or family who look at your date without rose-colored glasses, and if you find yourself making excuses for the fact that your date hasn't asked you how you are for five days, then you know it's time to leave.
