This is how long you should sleep in for a rested weekend

Do you belong to the early birds club or are you team let-me-sleep-in? To the great frustration of those around me, I absolutely belong to the latter group, especially on weekends. How nice is it to catch up on those lost hours of sleep that your eternally busy week schedule has taken from you on your days off? At least, that's what I always thought. Until I found out that catching up on sleep is not that easy and that sleeping in longer is not necessarily better. Researchers have discovered the golden formula when it comes to sleeping in, and unfortunately, it has nothing to do with sleeping in all day.

Waking up rested on the weekend, according to sleep experts, starts during the week: people who sleep less than seven hours a night are already 1-0 behind, and for them, it is nearly impossible to get enough hours of sleep per week. From seven hours a night, you as an adult get enough sleep, although there is no ideal sleep duration: this really varies from person to person. To determine your perfect sleeping-in time, keep track of how long your natural sleep pattern is for a week and add one or two hours to it on the weekend. Do you sleep more than two extra hours on the weekend than normal? Then you disrupt your sleep rhythm, which can cause problems during the week. As boring as it sounds: regularity is the answer to all your sleep problems.
