Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the gourmands at online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat it and what to cook. This time our cheffies serve you: Snackspert is lyrical about the croissants from Fort Negen in Amsterdam.

Eke Bosman, better known as Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, and as a baby had his first frikandel, hates vlammetjes, has devoured at least 1500 burgers in his life, suspects there is more mayonnaise in his body than blood, and shares his best and worst snack reviews on FavorFlav. This week he ate the tastiest croissants ever and the pitacorn turned out to be a great success.

Croissants from Fort Negen, Amsterdam

I want to talk about Fort Negen, a bakery on Jan Evertsenstraat in Amsterdam. They have taken the croissant to a higher level, such a high level that I am even considering promoting croissants from the label of bakery pastry to high-quality bakery snack. Yes, crazy times, but what Fort Negen does every weekend is insane. Besides the many sweet weekend specials (cruffins and various cookies), they also make savory specials, including the stuffed croissants. In the first photo, you see a croissant with roasted pumpkin, goat cheese, and thyme, among other things. In the second photo, you see my favorite: a Japanese omelet with srirachamayo and spring onion. These are all things you haven't tasted before, and it's insane. Therefore, I want to recommend that every time you are in Amsterdam for a weekend, check out the weekend specials from Fort Negen – in my opinion, it's the best in the city, if not the country. Croissants of such a high level that even the Empire State Building looks up to them. Or something. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Pitacorn from snackbar Van Vliet, Amsterdam

Snackbar owners pay attention: a pita with kipcorn is really a blast. The pitacorn. You should also try it. Snackbar Van Vliet in Amsterdam Osdorp sells one, with their homemade ‘sevensaus’. What is that? The recipe is a secret, but it is honestly the sweet version of whiskey cocktail sauce. With a little paprika in it. It may not look like much, but yes, the ugliest trees can sometimes stay standing. Because the strange thing is that this tastes incredibly good. I never expected this combination, but it works like a well-oiled machine. The downside is that the kipcorn itself feels a bit dry inside, but luckily they are generous with the sauce at Van Vliet. And yes, if you are generous with sauce, you even get respect from the pope. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

FISH BALLS FROM IKEA

I didn't know: IKEA apparently has fish balls in addition to meat, vegetable, and vegan balls. Well, that makes my slipto- eh, tongue tingle faster, because I am generally quite enthusiastic about those balls from IKEA. This version huvudrolls consists of cod and salmon. The crispy layer is good, the taste inside is fortunately well balanced (a dominant salmon flavor seems difficult in such a ball), but I find the texture a bit disappointing. It falls apart, as if it were cotton candy. So soft. I understand it, because fish is usually very soft inside, but a little more binding agent would have given a more pleasant mouthfeel. But well, in terms of taste, they are fine. Sufficient therefore. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
