If you read my articles more often, you probably already know: this girl has a winter dip. It's a huge dip and every year it catches me off guard again. So I try to go to the sun at least once during these dreary days every year. Last month it was finally time. This destination surprised me so much that I'm actually going back next week. Yes really, this country is so beautiful (and I still have so much more to see and do there) that I wanted to go back right away. It's a country you might not think of right away: Oman.
And that's a shame, because this is exactly a destination that should be on your bucket list. It's quite large (about the same size as Germany), the temperature in winter is so nice (very important of course, between 25 and 30 degrees), the nature is so special (from deserts to wadis and the beautiful mosques and hotels), the people are friendly and the food is delicious. What more could you want?
My journey started in the capital Muscat, where it is filled with beautiful hotels. From here you can travel further or use this as your base. If you choose the latter, be sure to check if you can book a room at the Kempinski hotel or the Al Bustan Palace. Both are truly beautiful hotels, and the latter was even the former palace of the sultan. Well, then you know it's good. Fun fact: the ninth floor of this hotel is still his. Both hotels also have very good restaurants, in case you don't feel like going into the city. Muscat is definitely worth a visit; for example, go to the famous souq or the mosque of sultan Qaboos. Be sure to go to the mosque in the morning; after eleven it is closed to visitors.
What else is there to do in Oman? You absolutely must not skip the wadis: Wadi Shab is truly beautiful (be sure to bring water shoes!) and spending a night in the desert is really a once in a lifetime experience. But no worries: a comprehensive travel guide will be coming very soon on Amayzine.
Not convinced yet? Then check out this first vlog from Oman.
