Wow: this is what the cast of Friends still earns from reruns

The unthinkable happened to me recently. I was in a room with someone who had never heard of Friends. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. ‘Smelly Cat? How you doin’? Ugly Naked Guy?!?!’ I tried panicking. But no, this twenty-something had no idea what I was talking about. Okay, the last episode of Friends aired in 2004 (yes, we are getting that old), but almost twenty years later we are still treated to regular reruns of this delightful series. So often, in fact, that the cast makes a nice little sum from it.

How much is that, you ask? All the main characters still earn twenty million dollars a year thanks to worldwide reruns of Friends. Twenty million. By the way, that's just as much as they received in their bank accounts during the last season, where all six actors earned one million dollars per episode.

Our favorite friends are not the only ones who get to enjoy the benefits of the successful series. Vincent Ventresca, who appeared in only two episodes as Monica's boyfriend, still receives $2000 each year for his role as ‘Fun Bobby’. If you calculate that, every guest role would yield about $1000 per episode annually, which means Maggie Wheeler, who played Janice, gets $19,000 a year and Jane Sibbett, who portrayed Carol, sees $15,000 appear in her bank account each year.

Unfortunately, Gunther drew the short straw. Although it is not known how much money he earned from reruns (before his death in 2021), he indicated that he was only paid for the episodes in which he actually had lines and that the amount of the annual payment is entirely related to how much you earned per episode back then. So, still a little mystery.
