According to trainers, these workouts are completely pointless

Stop what you're doing, let that gym bag slowly drop and hear me out: apparently our favorite workouts have absolutely no effect on improving our fitness goals. Of course, any movement is good movement, but why would you work yourself into a sweat for something that hardly contributes to your health? As the only real sports-phobic, I actually wonder daily why you would even want to work up a sweat, but that might be a discussion for another time. Today, I’d like to share all the workouts that trainers say are completely overhyped, so you can tackle your next gym session a bit more effectively.
The treadmill
Ouch, sorry treadmill fans, but you can cross this off your list. Trainer Dee King admits that there are indeed benefits to a good walk, but also says it's not the solution for cardio fitness. The treadmill can get boring quickly (to the point that I haven't touched one in a year), making it hard to stick to this routine. You might want to explore other ways to get your heart rate up, like jumping, speed squats, dancing, or, in my case, streaming repeats of Special Forces VIPS.
Push-ups
Drop and give me nothing, regular push-ups are out. Aside from the fact that they are mega boring, there are so many ways to make them more effective. For example, try a walking push-up: instead of starting in a push-up position, start standing. Bend forward and place your hands on the ground (as close to your feet as possible) and then slowly walk one hand at a time forward. Once you're in a plank position, perform your push-up and walk your hands back up to return to the standing position. Let me know how this goes? I am definitely not going to try this.
Crunches and sit-ups
Yes, I could have told you this too. Ter-ri-ble. When I was still pretending to enjoy exercising, I was always very disappointed that after the true torture known as ab workout time, I didn't immediately have a flat stomach. Many trainers say that crunches and sit-ups are also not the ideal way to train your core. Aside from the fact that they are fairly boring exercises, you also spend a lot of time on them and can easily train your abs during the rest of your workout. So you can train smarter by engaging your abs during exercises like squats, bicep curls, and deadlifts so you can say goodbye to those boring crunches once and for all.
