Beauty journalists are sure: this shampoo is the best

Lotte Davines shampoo

The search for the perfect shampoo can take years. It must meet almost more requirements than your perfect partner: nourishing, restorative, not too heavy, pleasantly scented, biodegradable – it’s quite a wish list that sticks to your super shampoo. Beauty editors are incredibly enthusiastic about the Essential Haircare line from the brand Davines, and they have their very good reasons for that.

Nine families
First of all, there are nine ‘families’ that each fulfill a different ‘hair need’. We don't all have the same hair, so a one-size-fits-all shampoo simply doesn't exist. For example, you can choose the Volu family (you can guess what that is for; volume) or the Dede family, which is ideal for people who want to wash their hair every day. Is your hair dry from a summer full of sun and sea or because you've dyed it just a bit too often? Then you choose the MOMO, NOUNOU, or MINU family.

Sustainability
Sustainability is becoming increasingly important when choosing beauty products. How do we keep our footprint as small as possible? All products from Essential Haircare – shampoos, masks, conditioners, and serums – consist largely of natural and easily biodegradable ingredients. There is also collaboration with Slow Food Presidium farms that help preserve endangered plant species and thus support biodiversity.

The packaging
It is made from recycled plastic and is fully recyclable. The wraps in which the bottles are placed are made from FSC paper from responsibly managed forests.

The headquarters of Davines is located in Parma, Italy. Covering an area of 77,000 square meters, Davines Village includes offices, the Research and Development laboratory, the production unit, and the warehouse. Davines produces CO2-neutral, and 100% of the electricity used at the Davines Village production site comes from renewable sources.

What I also find so nice is this...
Each family of the Essential Haircare line contains one specific active ingredient, sourced from a Slow Food Presidium they established themselves. The label states the name of the person who cultivated this ingredient, with love and care. Worldwide, there are more than 655 Slow Food Presidia that – technically and financially – support more than 13,000 small farmers, allowing them to continue growing plants that are typical for that specific region and would otherwise disappear. This way, the ‘genetic heritage’ is preserved, you help the local economy, your hair looks better than ever, and you contribute to a better world.

And the most important and coolest thing...
Refill is hot. Davines is launching refill packs for five of its best-selling Essential Haircare shampoos. The packaging is available in a 500 ml size, enough to refill your daily use bottle twice. Davines hopes to inspire its customers to be waste-free at home and promotes ‘reduce, reuse, and recycle’. The group wants to be a leader in the sustainability movement. In the production of the new and recyclable refill packs, 74% less plastic is used than for two 250 ml bottles of Essential Haircare shampoo.
