These 2 ‘innocent’ clothing items could cost you your job

Do you want to make a bit of a career this year and maybe even change jobs? Then pay extra attention to what you bring out of the closet.
Because some clothing items are not as innocent as they seem: they can even cost you your job.
Research shows that not all clothing items are appreciated during a job interview. They may seem like ordinary items in your wardrobe, but better think twice. It particularly concerns these two categories: jeans and branded clothing. Never apply in your jeans: it comes across as uninterested and somewhat casual. Do you want to be taken seriously and negotiate a huge salary? Then you also come in neat attire. So: black pants, trousers, longer dresses – better choices than those jeans. Have you been working somewhere for years and is the dress code nice and casual? Of course, you can wear your jeans to the office, but not to your interview. And also not on your first day of work.
Good. And then there's the branded clothing. Nothing turns off an employer more than someone who shows up for an interview in a sweater that has ISABEL MARANT written on it in HUGE letters, or any brand for that matter. It comes across as arrogant, like: I can definitely afford this. You radiate that you are already rich enough to go for a perhaps lesser position. Of course, they are nice items, but it doesn't have to be something you flaunt at your first interviews. Not great for your salary negotiation either. Rather flaunt your knowledge and skills.
Wear something natural, something that is not too revealing, something you feel comfortable and confident in, but leave the loud brands and logos at home. And save your jeans for the weekend.
