So your dog thinks all sorts of things of you
Especially female dogs judge harshly
Yes, you think your dog loves you unconditionally, and don't worry: I'm not going to burst that bubble. That's true. But he definitely has opinions about you.
This is evident from research by Kyoto University, where they tested 74 dogs of different breeds. It turned out that dogs in general – and female dogs in particular – are quite “judgmental”.
How does it work?
The dogs first saw a group of people holding an empty pot. They pretended to want to give something from that empty pot to the dogs.
One group opened the lid quite easily and then showed the empty pot to the dog. The other group pretended to struggle a lot to get the lid off, but ultimately failed. They put the pot back with the lid still on.
Especially the females
Then all the people – both the group that easily opened the lid and those who couldn't – lined up, each holding a dog treat. And guess where almost all the dogs went? Exactly: to the people who had easily opened the lid. Apparently, the dogs saw them as more capable and trustworthy.
Female dogs were, by the way, the most determined in their choice.
Dogs: they're just like people. But we already knew that.
