Expedition debrief: this was truly a goosebumps moment

Episode 18

By
experienced Expedition Robinson

Either you hate him, or you love him. But however you twist it: today is the last day of the self-proclaimed Tarzan on his nude beach. It’s time for the finale, and the only thing we knew for sure was that Good Karma Kiran would have to face Tarzan Timor. After a not-so-exciting balance test, Marijn was also allowed to join the men in the finale. Kiran reflects on his time with Thomas on Titan Island and the first time he tasted oysters. ‘I learned that you can handle much more than you think,’ he says proudly, accompanied by the soundtrack of ‘Inside Out’ (to emphasize that this is about personal development?), and when an athlete says that, you know how deep they must have gone. They roast their marshmallows in the campfire, and for a moment it feels like this should actually be the end of Expedition Robinson.

My interest is actually nowhere to be found

Maybe it took too long, or maybe it’s that I just knew from the start that there was only one Robinson in the game for me, but I just can’t really keep my attention on it. The trial itself doesn’t even take that long, it seems to be over in just a few minutes, but I still find myself overly annoyed by Nicolette and Art who are live-commentating what we are watching at that moment, including just a bit too often a ‘come on!’, which gives absolutely no one the strength they need at that moment. Kiran’s calmness also comes forward in this trial again, and I find his own comparison with Mowgli very fitting: he swings so calmly between the stones to the last part.

There is only one thing I care about

That I was quite irritated by Timor from day one is now clear. And if I may guess how many people, just like me, hope that Kiran wins this Expedition, I would guess it must be about 50% of the viewers. That’s why it’s quite annoying for me that one of my sisters is completely taken with Timor. Because if Kiran has to be overtaken by someone, it’s Marijn. No matter how silly it is: I secretly just hope that Timor finishes last. And guess what. My prayers have been answered: Kiran wins Expedition Robinson 2024 and jumps into the water like a happy child with a somersault. Marijn is genuinely very happy for him, and I feel goosebumps from that sweet moment of them together. Somewhere on another raft, we see Timor sitting a bit angrily sulking. He also looks like a small child, but a very angry little child. We get to see a montage of Timor’s best moments on the island (why, I don’t know, because he is not the winner after all). Strangely enough, there isn’t a single one of his bare bottom moments among those highlights.
