The TikTok hype that is already dominating 2025: rebranding yourself

By

If you were to make a list of the most frequently asked questions around New Year's, ‘do you have any resolutions?’ would be number 1. It's also the number 1 question that I find quite annoying and boring. Having resolutions can be quite personal, and if you answer that you don't have any, the person asking often finds that strange or dull. Because it's quite a conversation killer for what could have followed. Maybe resolutions are just a bit old-fashioned. Because sometimes the things you want to do differently in the coming year just can't be captured in one sentence. But don't worry, because of course TikTok has a solution for every problem. We call it: ‘Personal Rebranding’.

What exactly is ‘Personal Rebranding’?

With these kinds of trends, you often just have to open your socials and you'll see ‘rebranding yourself’ and ‘my rebrand for the new year’ everywhere: all TikToks from friends who are happily brainstorming a whole new life strategy or vision for the new year together. It sounds completely hysterical, and in this setting it might be, but a little feedback from your friends can’t hurt. After all, they know best how you come across to the outside world, and what your strengths or weaknesses are. If you're busy with how you come across to people, it's very handy to know. Still, I would only recommend that if you notice that you're dissatisfied with yourself. In all other cases, you should actually try to adopt more of that ‘IDGAF’ attitude: everyone can think what they want, as long as you're happy with yourself.

Now let's take it step by step: how are we going to tackle this?

Make a ‘year in review’ for yourself
What went well this year? And what went less well? Have there been certain situations where you think you could have handled it differently, for example because you were quickly irritated or too sensitive? Make sure to work on that this year. Think about what energy you want to bring into the new year, focus on that, and keep this in mind when setting other goals for yourself.

How do you envision 2025?
A wonderful platform for visualizing dreams is Pinterest. By collecting the most beautiful images of what you want to focus on in the coming year, you make it more tangible and concrete for yourself. You can use these images for a vision board, and the nice thing is that you can always have the app with you to remind yourself of where you want to grow this year during tough moments.

The big social media clean-up
You know very well that you only catch negative energy from certain people you follow on Insta. If it's not that classmate from high school who was always mean to you, then it's an influencer who saddles you with a negative and unhealthy self-image, or the gossip channels that only want to spread rumors and negativity about the world. Let go of your curiosity and just unfollow. It's also much better for your mindset to not open social media for the first hour of each day. Grab a book, watch the news, or do something else that enriches you instead of that mindless scrolling.

Go for that new wardrobe or hairstyle
How you present yourself to the outside world has everything to do with how you dress. If your clothes no longer match what you want to project, it's time to take action. Look around: do colleagues, friends, or family members wear certain items that make you think: ‘I would like that too’? Always ask about the store or the brand. You don't have to walk around in identical outfits, but who knows, you might get inspired and come up with a whole new, personal style.

My favorite: prepare for the new blessings
Do you want to meet the love of your life? Then it's time to block your old fling. You won't run back as soon as you need attention or feel lonely. If you want new energy in your life, the old has to go. Do you really want to find your dream job this year? Set a deadline for yourself on which day you need to resign from your current job. Of course, you need to make sure you don't end up without work, but setting this deadline for yourself can be just the push you need.

So it's really not just about your social media appearance, although cleaning up your timeline is also quite nice (it's no longer so fun to show that you were lounging by the pool in Tuscany with your ex in 2019). The overall cleanup and rebranding of your life provides a positive boost into the new year, and as dry as it may be: ‘New year, new me!’ is not for nothing one of the most shouted phrases around New Year's.
