This is what your ‘Spotify Wrapped’ says about your personality

We all know it: when the end of the astronomical year approaches, the end of your Spotify year is even closer. Looking at the data from previous years, there’s a good chance it will be this week: even before the new year, the flood of Insta stories with all the ‘Spotify Wrapped’ screenshots will fill your timeline. Apparently, it’s very important to show which music you’ve listened to the most, but why? What does such a list say about you, other than that you’re obsessed with Beyoncé or Taylor Swift? Well, quite a lot actually.

Your list says quite a bit about your personality

The info you can find on your ‘Wrapped’ statement includes how much music you’ve listened to over the past year, on which day you listened the most minutes, and which city in the world best matches your musical taste. The latter is also fun to use if you don’t know where to go for your next city trip; maybe you’ll meet a lot of like-minded people you get along with super well, all thanks to Spotify. That would be nice.

Loyal or curious

My sister is always the first to know when a new talent is discovered, partly because she regularly checks the Spotify playlist ‘New Music Friday’. This also influences your Wrapped, as you’ll see that there isn’t a specific artist who stands head and shoulders above the rest. Especially compared to people like me, who almost constantly play the homemade playlist with the same five artists alternating with those songs that everyone has really heard enough of in the past 50 years. But maybe you’re just like me, and you simply enjoy knowing what to expect in terms of music: singing along, or shouting, dancing while cooking, or almost meditative showering with the music of India.Arie. Apparently, you’re super loyal, while others are very curious.

A trip down memory lane

Perhaps the most fun of all the statistics. Spotify tells you on which date you first listened to your favorite song. If you then look back in your calendar, do you remember how you felt back then? Was there a special occasion? Did you discover the song by turning on the Italian radio while on vacation? There’s definitely a story behind every song. But this is one of the few things that you really know only yourself. Or do you generally listen to a lot of old-fashioned music, like ’the Beatles’ or Billie Holiday? There’s a good chance you know that music from your parents or grandparents. Memories easily stick to music. Sometimes it’s even a brand new song that still reminds you of something from long ago. That could be related to the lyrics, which perfectly describe what you were going through at that time.

And of course, your favorite music genre is quite personal

Whether you listen to Death Metal or R&B says quite a bit about your personality. It’s also possible that a cute, shy girl suddenly goes wild at such an intense rock concert (still waters run deep), but generally, it’s noticeable from both appearance and character what kind of music someone loves the most. It’s no coincidence that we were all so captivated by ‘Step Up’, right? Channing Tatum, the tough Hip Hop dancer, suddenly going wild to classical music… We’re always up for those kinds of surprises, aren’t we?
