Expedition aftertalk: Hamza has stolen my heart
Episode 15

I wouldn't be surprised if Kiran secretly feels a bit bad for letting Nouchka win last week. This woman is tough, and now that she has the chance, she is unstoppable. The competitive mentality is completely taking over Winner Island. One advantage: since she defeated Timor, the expedition members get the chance to vote them out in the next Island Council.
But still, something is bothering me: this is just not fair.
The challenge between Kiran and Nouchka this week is the eating challenge. Both had indicated beforehand that they would refuse this, but here they are chewing on the most disgusting animals and organs. In my opinion, this challenge should be abolished now. We've seen it enough after all these seasons, right? And besides, something happened that I just find really unfair: Nouchka refuses to eat the fish eyes, but the game just continues. It would be fairer if she would simply be ‘out’ in such a case, instead of Kiran having to digest those eyes all by himself. And of course, there needs to be some drama on the island. Ramon suddenly decides not to participate in the voting against Timor, which is quite noticeable. Especially since Timor is the only one who has been quite critical of Ramon. In recent weeks, he has actually received a lot of praise for keeping track of the food supply, and that they have been able to eat so well for so long with few ingredients. But according to Timor, intervention is necessary; Ramon is supposedly planning to prepare a feast: “as long as I'm here, that's not going to happen.” Well Timor, then please leave quickly.
Why does everything have to be set on fire right away?!
At the island council, something unexpected also has to happen, which completely disrupts everyone's plans. Letters from home have arrived, and that has quite an impact. Especially Marijn reacts emotionally, and there is no doubt for her: she gives up her voting rights to read the letter. I can genuinely cry with her; I understand her emotional reaction so well. In my family, it is customary to know where everyone is every second of the day, what they are doing, and what fun or silly things are happening. We find that cozy. To the outside world, it may sound hysterical; we call it Italian. But back to the letters. Because I really couldn't hold back my tears when it was Hamza's turn. He was told that there was a letter from his mother, to which Nicolet added doubtfully: ‘and Pablo...?’ And that completely broke him: ‘Pablo is my cat!’ and the tears started flowing. Since last week, I had already developed a soft spot for him, but now I am sure he is an absolute sweetheart. Which other tough guy dares to cry on TV because his cat supposedly wrote him a letter? Ramon's choice mainly gives me a stomachache. Upon hearing that all three of his children have written him a letter, he remains adamant: I want to vote. And there go the letters from the children. I can picture their mother saying, ‘we're going to write letters for dad!’ and then they see dad throwing the letters into the fire. I just hope there weren't any drawings included; I find it heartbreaking enough as it is.
Amid all the tears, we are fortunately still left with that insensitive man.
Kiran breaks down when he hears that his girlfriend has written him a letter. Isn't this true love, when your man cries like this because you wrote him a letter? What a sweetheart he is. And of course, we also have Timor. The letter from his sister leaves him cold; he doesn't react at all, it doesn't seem to affect him, and so he says without any doubt or small glimmer of regret in his eyes that the letter can go towards the fire. How I wish he would leave instead of Ramon, who now also returns home without letters.
