Forget job sites: job shopping helps you find a job

Every time again with trembling knees to a job interview and countless quick prayers in the hope that it will work this time. Job hunting causes a lot of stress; and all that tension doesn't make endless scrolling through job sites any fun. Fortunately, our modern oracle TikTok has a solution for this: job shopping is the new trend that will make your job search less stressful.
Time to shop
The job shopping trend was conceived by TikToker Piper Phillips. She had quit her job as a marketing manager and was looking for a way to make the search for a new job less stressful. Her solution: think of it as a shopping spree. You compare job listings just like items in a store. It may sound a bit airy-fairy, but it's mainly about your mindset. By making it feel less heavy in your head, it will also feel less stressful. Not only that: job shopping also makes your search much more effective. It's very tempting to apply for as many jobs as possible to increase your chances, but if you really don't like a job, you won't last long and you'll have to start over again. While shopping, you only buy the things that truly make you happy so that you can benefit from them for a long time. So you should actually look at jobs in the same way. Of course, there will be some that may not be 100 percent your dream job, but this mindset motivates you to search more purposefully. And, honestly: shopping makes us all happy.
How does it work?
To get the most out of the job shopping mindset, Piper has a few tips.
1. Let go of your negative emotions
Not being able to find work or being fired is never fun. The stress you feel while searching for a This is how you recover from a bore-out: is therefore not strange at all. But remember: you have nothing to be ashamed of. You are really not the only one who sometimes struggles. But these negative emotions can get in the way of your search. You may hesitate to apply because you're afraid of rejection. By acknowledging what you're struggling with, you can work on it so that the process becomes a bit easier. Don't forget that you also have a lot to offer companies. With your knowledge and experience, you can strengthen your future employer, and you can trust that.
2. Make a wish list
To be able to apply purposefully, you need to know exactly what you're looking for. You can ask yourself how your ideal life would look and which job would fit that. Piper is not only referring to the salary you will earn, but also to the location where you work. Maybe you're looking for something you can do remotely, so you can travel a lot alongside your work. While applying, keep this list handy to ensure that the job fits you. Just don't be too picky; not all job listings will meet all your wishes. But if you can check off a few boxes, at least you're heading in the right direction.
3. Put in the right effort
As nice as it would be: jobs unfortunately don't just come to you. You really have to look for them yourself. Just make sure you're doing this in the right places. General job sites sound convenient, but there's probably a lot there that you can't use. That distracts and costs unnecessary effort. To really find the positions that suit you, it's better to look at industry-specific sites where you want to work or that match your work experience. It saves a lot of time.
4. Don't get discouraged
Every rejection is a big disappointment. But: keep going. In the store, you sometimes have to try on ten pairs of pants before you find the right fit. The same goes for applying; every failed application brings you closer to that perfect job. It won't always be easy, but with this more positive mindset you can keep motivating yourself to continue. Happy job shopping.
