Hostage situation in Apple Store gets filmed and receives a documentary

The hostage situation in the Apple Store at Leidseplein in Amsterdam now really feels like a kind of strange fever dream. Did that really happen? I remember so well where I was: driving back from Disneyland Paris, where we kept my laptop on the whole ride to stay updated on the developments. I think almost everyone still remembers where they were when they heard about this bizarre situation. Straight out of a movie, but not in a positive way; incredibly scary, such a hostage situation. Thank God it had a good ending (except for the major traumas that those involved have to deal with).

Such an intense and also somewhat spectacular hostage situation naturally calls for a film adaptation. And that is exactly what Netflix is going to do; in 2025, a film will be released online about this event, where we will see the different perspectives of people who played an important role in it. Now I'm immediately curious if we will also get to see Life of Yvonne, who casually posted on her Stories where the people in the Apple Store were hiding.

The roles will be played by, among others, Soufiane Moussouli, Marcel Hensema, Loes Haverkort, Louis Talpe, Thijs Boermans, Fockeline Ouwekerk, Eric Corton, and Emmanuel Ohene Boafo. The direction is in the hands of Bobby Boermans and the yet-to-be-titled film will be released on Netflix in 2025.

But that's not all: as if it was planned, Videoland announced today that they will come out with a documentary about the same incident. ‘The Hostage Situation in the Apple Store’ is a collaboration with AT5, made by Roos Gerritsen. We will see never-before-seen footage, a clearer picture of hostage-taker Abdel A., the victims, and a complete reconstruction of the evening is promised.

This documentary will be available on AT5 on February 22 (exactly two years after the hostage situation took place) and from that moment it will also be streamable on Videoland.
