If you post a lot on Instagram or TikTok, you must be a bit narcissistic

Instagram: those who thought ten years ago that it was a hype that would blow over were wrong. It is still the platform where we post photos and videos.
Of ourselves.
And that's where the ’it‘ is: narcissism. Anyone who posts a lot on Instagram must be a bit narcissistic, right? This also applies to TikTok posters: videos where you sing along to a song? Come on. Social media are places where you show how great you look. How beautiful your children are. How fun your vacation is and how charming your 16 euro cocktail looks. You show that you have friends. That you go to a party. Nice, that life of yours. It's a place where everyone shows their best sides, but also expects followers who are waiting for those photos of you. That makes it quite narcissistic: the world revolves around you on your Instagram account. And your husband, children, and fun days.
Narcissism is a personality trait characterized by an exaggerated sense of self-importance, a strong need for admiration, and a lack of empathy for others. In other words: you think highly of yourself. Very important. You find it logical that you get likes and hearts. The core idea of narcissism. Narcissists have a constant need for admiration and approval from others. They crave recognition of their superiority. Narcissists often have a positive self-image and believe they are special, unique, or extraordinary. However, the positive self-image of a narcissist can be fragile and dependent on external validation. They crave those likes and comments and followers. Sad.
The narcissist posts a lot of herself. Of her own face, nicely turned towards the camera, lips puckered. It might all be part of it in 2024, yeah, I know. But sometimes I think: what are we all doing on those socials? Fake, faker, fakest. Focus on your real life, offline. Much more charming to look happy there.
