Lowlands tickets next year ‘around 325 euros’

If you want to go this year again, Lowlands it might be wise to start saving up, because then it will feel less painful later. Believe me: you will need your Girl Math to justify this ticket. Lowlands is going to get more expensive again. So far, there are probably no surprises, but meine gute, this price increase... Director Eric van Eerdenburg told BNR: ‘It is inevitable that the price will go up again.’
And it is going up: towards 325 euros. PARDON? You can get tickets to New York that are cheaper and then you're on the other side of the ocean. What a bizarre increase; in 2018, a ticket for Lowlands was still under 200 euros, and now, six years later, it's almost 140 euros more expensive? I find that an extremely steep increase, if I may say so.
Why those bizarre price increases? Van Eerdenburg: ‘That's because the pressure from artist fees is enormous, but also due to the recent wage increase and the scarcity of materials.’ If I may add a critical note: make sure to book artists this year that we haven't seen before at Lowlands. So not another Mumford & Sons and another Queens of the Stone Age and then call that your headliner – you've already gotten away with that three times before.
Because don't get me wrong: I love Lowlands, but in terms of line-up, it hasn't been the most amazing in recent years. Just look at Rock Werchter, which alone on Saturday has Dua Lipa, Nothing But Thieves, and The Kooks. And that line-up is just as good for the rest of the days: Lenny Kravitz, Maneskin, Foo Fighters (!) and Jungle. A ticket for Rock Werchter? That will cost you 309 euros this year; still cheaper than Lowlands.
Well, this old grump is of course just going to be there, because once again: I can justify this well for myself with Girl Math. Just buy a ticket right away and by the time it's the end of August, it feels like a free festival. Totally fine.
Van Eerdenburg also finds it all quite annoying for us: ‘It is a festival that must be accessible and remain accessible for the primary target group, which are young people starting in the labor market and students (today I learned that I have officially been too old for years to belong to the primary target group, red.). They are already struggling with gigantic room prices and costs, so I find it very difficult.’
Is there any good news today regarding Lowlands? Yes: the ridiculous service fees of 40 euros that had to be paid when you resold your ticket (and that could no longer be done via TicketSwap thanks to a choice from Lowlands since last year, but only via Ticketmaster) will be reduced to ten euros.
