Everything I won't miss about Lowlands

By
Wieke with friends at Lowlands

Just like half of the Randstad, I was also at Lowlands this weekend and I am now recovering. What a great time it was, wonderful, we were so lucky with the weather and how quickly the time flew by. I was also very pleased with the addition of more toilets (last year I spent about half of Lowlands waiting in line for the restrooms), the food was phenomenal again (seriously: Lowlands is, in my opinion, also just a festival for foodies; you can eat so well here) and I found the line-up quite disappointing beforehand, but I didn't let that bother me the whole weekend.

Was it only roses and moonlight? Oh certainly not, these are the things I will NOT miss about Lowlands.

1. I wish there were a bit more roses, especially in the restrooms. What kind of poison do people have to put in their bodies to cause such smells? I gag at the mere memory of it.

2. And yes, I wish there were a bit more moonlight... Instead of waking up at six in the morning from the daylight while you've only been in your bed for an hour. Ah, camping, what a joy it remains.

3. The showers that are a kind of Russian roulette; out of twenty, only one is at a nice temperature, the rest are cold, lukewarm, or at cremation level. And you pay €3.50 for that.

4. The free shower you get at night when you walk into Bravo or India, but which is actually just condensation from the ceiling above and sweat from other people on the sides.

5. Paying €3.50 for one popsicle and almost twenty euros for a burrito with guacamole.

6. Spending four hours a day walking back and forth to the tent.

7. In any case: camping. The pure misfortune when you have to walk to the campsite, while you already know in advance that it will be a total squeeze. The joy when everything is set up and you open your first drink in your camping chair. And again that pure misfortune when you have to load everything back up on Monday…

8. Spending another four hours a day finding people. Left front! Pole middle left! And preferably a blurry photo of your view. Tip: the maps from ikstahier.nu  and then check off where you are. Lifesavers.

9. That it is always just too cold or too warm at Lowlands. Yes, the weather was nice this year and yes, we still complained that ‘this is also a bit too warm’.

10. And then the last point, something I will miss: being able to complain about the things you won't miss at Lowlands. Already looking forward to next year.
