This series shows how dangerous curiosity can be

Since the advent of social media, privacy has been a hot topic almost daily. Generally, I don't worry too much about it; I wouldn't know what people would want to do with my Insta Stories of wine glasses and books, or the sunny view I have.
That's why I wasn't too afraid to turn on the new miniseries ‘Can I tell you a secret’ on Netflix when I was home alone on the couch this weekend. Unfortunately, that relaxed mood changed quite quickly.
The documentary shows how a stalker has completely upended the lives of more than 60 different women, which he could do by following their social media activity. Through all the different channels you can think of, the victims are approached with the opening line ‘Can I tell you a secret?’ and from that moment on, the misery begins. Curiosity wins out for these women, causing them to become entangled in a web of lies, built by the stalker.
Friends, colleagues, and even family begin to doubt the victims and whether they can be trusted. All because the stalker has hacked their social accounts, even taking over phone numbers, spreading gossip, and ruining their lives by impersonating his victims. Gradually, they lose everyone and it takes years for them to find out who is doing this to them.
Before I spoil too much: definitely watch it. I'm sure that after seeing this documentary, you'll consider sweeping through your Insta followers and setting your account to private...
