Virgin River gets a spin-off on Netflix

Good news for Virgin River fans, very good news indeed: a spin-off is coming to Netflix. To be honest, I expected this much earlier due to the huge success of the series, which seems to be getting even bigger. People love Virgin River and can't get enough of it, that's for sure.

Even I, who normally am not a fan of spin-offs, am quite excited about this. The spin-off will revolve around the parents of Mel Monroe — so I have the idea that it will capture the vibe of Virgin River, and that the same names will pop up here and there, but with a completely new story. That sounds like music to my ears, especially since the creators can take this in many directions: we know very little about Mel's parents. We only saw her father, Everett Reed, for the first time in the fifth season, in the Christmas special. Her mother, Sarah Jensen, passed away when Mel was still young, and we know very little about that as well.

So you could also call this spin-off a prequel, as it will take place in the past.

So that's quite a nice prospect: the sixth season of Virgin River is also on the way. We still have to be quite patient, as the series has faced significant delays due to the writers' strikes in Hollywood. This year is going to be a Virgin River-less year, as the sixth season won't be online until 2025, and the spin-off is just now in development. Hopefully, that will also be online next year, although it could very well be 2026.
