This is the worst thing you can do when you call in sick at work

Those things that are legal but feel completely illegal to do. You are sick. Really sick, no joke, no exaggeration. And so you report sick at work.

That always feels very double: can you still try to go? Push through and hop? Or are you literally unable to leave your bed and bathroom? There is something regarding reporting sick that especially many young people make a mistake in, and it has everything to do with the time we live in: we live online. Digitally. And so it sometimes happens that someone reports sick but still posts a Story on Instagram. Ouch. That really can't be.

Not even a Story from a few days ago. Not even a paid collaboration. Reporting sick means being absent. Out of the ether. You're not there, you can't work, so you can't be on social media either. Of course, you might be scrolling in bed with a fever, but your boss doesn't need to know that. How would you react if you see someone can't come to the office but is promoting a meal box collaboration on Instagram? For some bosses, it could even be grounds for dismissal.

The strange thing is: you might not even think about it. You're lying in bed and uploading some photos from last weekend. Innocent, it seems. Yet you can create a strange impression with your clients. They don't know that the photos are from the terrace three days ago, even if you mention it. Just be super quiet when you're sick; not present in the offline world, then not online either. Simple, but very wise to remember well. And to tip to your girlfriends.
