Oaxaca is the new Mexican restaurant you want to go to

If you have a dinner planned in Amsterdam in January, I might have a really nice tip for you. There is a new kid in town, called Oaxaca. I had a bit of trouble with the pronunciation, but you pronounce it as wa-ha-ka and it is a Mexican state. Coincidentally, I rediscovered Mexican cuisine last year after a trip to New York, because you can get amazing Mexican food there. But in Amsterdam… To be honest, I haven't really found what I was looking for, except for one or two Mexican spots.
So you understand that with the opening of Oaxaca, I was very eager to try this, because it’s just a bit different from what you’re probably used to. Mexican food at a high level, with very surprising dishes on the menu. It started off well for me: the guacamole is prepared at the table and is honestly the best I’ve had in years. Very fresh, creamy with a spicy kick: so delicious.
For the brave, there are also roasted grasshoppers and ants on the menu, but whatever you do: definitely order the trio of oysters. Each piece is so special, and I dare say you haven't often eaten oysters this way. 10/10, so good.
And I have more recommendations: the authentic cheese from Oaxaca with chorizo is rich (so good to share) but oh so good, just like the pulled Iberian pork, which is also meant to be shared. This comes in a sizzling hot pan to the table, and then everyone can fill their own tortillas. Be sure to ask for the sauces on the side, because they are delicious (and some quite spicy).
Last but certainly not least: they literally know everything about Mezcal here, so you can also get advice on that. I thought I wouldn't like it at all, but what turns out? I had never really had good Mezcal, because it’s quite nice to drink.
If you love Mexican food, Oaxaca is a must, but actually, it’s a great addition to the Amsterdam dining scene.
