People who often fail their driving test are more intelligent, research shows

I think I've failed quite often, both in theory and in practice. Although I don't remember exactly anymore. But maybe that says enough... Ah, once you get your driver's license? You quickly forget the misery of a driving test. But people who often fail their driving test are smarter, research shows.

And that's nice to know. Although it's a poor consolation after having to pay 8725 euros for all those lessons left and right and looking back.

So what's going on? Studies show that smarter people are often over-analytical, which can disadvantage them during an exam. They think much more about the possible consequences of their actions, which sometimes makes them react more slowly or get distracted more easily at a traffic light or roundabout. In a practical situation, like a driving test, this tendency can be a stumbling block. They think too much and therefore don't dare to just turn right. While they know they have to. They understand it, but hesitate just a bit too much at the crucial moment.

And they often find it more exciting, too. Because it is stated that people with higher intelligence are more likely to worry about mistakes, which brings extra tension and pressure. This phenomenon, known as overthinking, can affect their performance. Thus, people with a higher IQ score higher on perfectionism. This can lead to a kind of fear of failure: they want to do everything perfectly, which can cause tension and unnecessary mistakes.

And so... Psychologists suggest that smarter people often perform better in theoretical tests than in practical exams. They excel in complex thinking tasks and large books they have to memorize, but practical skills like driving... No. So if you can't do anything with that examiner next to you? You're just way too smart for this. Bye.
