Selftan-test: Roquebrun vs Bali Body

By

The summer has officially started in the Netherlands, and that also means the kick-off of the daily stress moment: ‘what should I wear?!’ Because all those summery dresses, skirts, and shorts are super fun, but if your legs haven’t seen the sun yet, it can feel quite uncomfortable. Luckily, my Insta feed is now bursting with fantastic self-tan tips. But how do you know which brand gives the fastest and best results? And if you’ve never practiced applying self-tan: how easy are all those brands to use? ‘Let’s put it to the test,’ my sister and I thought. We both chose one of the brands that appeared most in our timeline. She ordered Roquebrun, I tested Bali Body, and here are our findings.

Roquebrun Dark Mousse – €59,-
Let’s start with an important tip: if you want to receive the kit quickly, definitely do NOT order the totally unnecessary and overpriced pants & top with the standard supplies. This made the delivery take much longer because the clothing turns out to be made to measure. You would then have to wear this outfit after applying the self-tan to ensure it doesn’t stain your own clothes. Unnecessary, because that wouldn’t happen anyway. Very handy, though: the scrub glove, back applicator, and a nice little bag that comes with it. You should definitely not be too stingy with the product. You don’t have to worry about it turning orange, because the color you end up with is really nice and natural. You can shower after 1 hour, but the first time it was only rinsed off after 8 hours. Still, the result was a bit disappointing. So, after a few days, I went through the process again, and then the result was really great. A natural tint from a product that is definitely very nice for sensitive skin.

Bali Body Dark Mousse – €29,95
This brand name is of course fantastic in itself. When you order the product, it almost feels like you’ve booked a vacation. But no, the harsh reality is that you order this product because you haven’t booked a vacation. You get the best deal when you order the dark mousse in combination with the glove. You use that glove for evenly applying the product without your hands getting stained. As you can see on Insta, you should apply the product by making long strokes along your leg. Once you’ve spread it well, you need to wait until it’s dried properly. You can rinse the product off after 1 hour, but you can also leave it on for 4 to 8 hours for the best effect. They say you can even sleep with it on, but I didn’t dare to do that with my white satin Zara Home sheets. After 3 hours of absorbing, it was time to rinse off, and the result was already visible. However, the fading from ankle to foot was a bit too rough, making my feet just a bit too unnaturally brown at the moment. But on my legs, it has become a beautiful natural honey-brown color. Since the result was already very nice, I decided not to do a second treatment right away. However, it is recommended to maintain the color by using the mousse once a week.

So it really depends on what you need. Roquebrun is a bit better suited for sensitive skin, the ingredients are more natural, and there are fewer unnecessary substances in it. The appearance is more luxurious, but you also pay more for it. Bali Body has a nice fragrance, is available in a simple bundle package with a glove and body lotion, and you dare to be a bit less stingy with it because it simply costs half as much as Roquebrun. With both brands, you get at least one same result: the confidence to show your legs to the world and wear that cute dress, skirt, or shorts because you feel like it, without being ashamed of white legs.
